12 Days of Fitness

Parents, need to get some energy out over the holidays....or anytime this winter? Have fun with the 12 Days of Fitness! Whether you are outside or in your basement, you don't need much room to get some ENERGY OUT during the holiday break with this activity. We are going to be using this as a warm-up this week, and while it doesn't look very hard at first glance--i promise you, if you do the exercises correctly, it is indeed challenging!

Kids, challenge your parents to the 12 Days of Fitness--do you think they can do the movements with you? Can they finish the the whole song?

Don't forget to start on the first day of fitness and make your way up to 12...by the end of the song you and your child will have done 12 laps around the room! AND most importantly--don't forget to sing along!

Use the below suggestions, or feel free to make up your own. Keep in mind that the exercises you do at the beginning you will do the most.

Here is an example of how the song goes, and a variation we did in class, however it changes every time depending on the age level and ability:

"On the ___ Day of Fitness Mrs. S did with me...."

A big lap around the room
2 burpies
3 frog leaps
4 second squat
5 360's (twist, turn one full circle and land on feet)
6 second tree pose (yoga style!)
7 leaping lizards (leaping)
8 Supermans (calf raises)
9 Starbursts (jump into air in shape of star)
10 jumping jacks
11 plies (ballet style)
12 sideways stretches
