Depending on the lesson plan, most days we warm-up before the main lesson. Getting ready for
The Buddy Run students have been learning to pace themselves as we run one perimeter of the upper field, but sometimes we warm-up with a tag game that lasts about 5-7 minutes. I switch taggers every 2 minutes so a good portion of the class gets a turn to be the tagger. On most days the entire class is participating, running during the entire period of time, and VERY WARM by the end of the instant activity.
Yoga Tag is a favorite warm-up of mine as it challenges the students cardiovascularly, and at the same time strengthens their arms, legs, and core. The rules of the game are simple: If you get tagged you must get in the yoga position "Downward Dog" and stay that way until a friend slowly and safely crawls under you.
Here are some pictures of Kindergarten warming up with Yoga Tag:
Ha! This is not your child, but this is why we call the yoga pose Downward Dog :)
