Buddy Run
Friday marks the 2nd Annual Buddy Run, and I am sure you have heard from your children that we have been preparing for it in P.E. While there have been a few moans and groans, the attitudes and excitement from the students has been inspiring.
We have been blessed to have this beautiful weather and be able to have P.E. (1st grade-4th) on the upper field since the beginning of school, which has also allowed us to warm-up with a nice run around the field, as part of our training for the run. We have talked about the importance of training for long distance running and some of the things we can do to cheer our bodies on as we run. I have even had some students say, "YES!" when I tell them we are running a lap around the field to warm-up :) I suppose just like adults, when we have a goal that we are working towards, it makes the preparation that much more rewarding.
As your children were reminded at the pep rally last Friday, the Buddy Run is not a race. It has been my goal in the last few weeks to teach students about pacing oneself when running. We talked about the difference between running during a soccer game and running longer distances non-stop. Hopefully by now the students understand the old saying "it's a marathon not a sprint", and this will help them remember to run slower when they run longer distances.
The Buddy Run will be held this Friday October 14th. Toddlers, Pre-K, and Pre-School will run with their 3rd-5th grade buddies from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Kindergarten - 2nd grade will run with their 6th-8th grade buddies from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. The older students run a shorter loop with their younger buddies, followed by another run with just their class.
We can't wait for the fun! This wonderful new tradition at St. Paul's celebrates the Buddy Program while emphasizing the importance of fitness and friendship. Last year, school spirit and enthusiasm spread throughout the upper field as students cheered each other on and celebrated new friendships with their buddies. Click here for more Buddy Run info!
